Holo Humpday: Digital Nails Allons-y!

Hello sweeties! If you’ve read this blog at all, you know I’m a total nerd for Doctor Who. When I was introduced to the brand, Digital Nails, I knew it was a nerd-match made in heaven – Raphaelle (the maker) is also a big Whovian, and there are SO many DW-themed polishes to choose from. Today I have an amazingly beautiful polish by Digital Nails – Allons-y!

Digital Nails Allons-y!

Digital Nails Allons-y!

Allons-y (“let’s go” in French) is the catchphrase of the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant who is beautiful and silly and has perfectly tousled hair. He is definitely my favorite Doctor, so any polish inspired by him is right up my alley! And this beauty by Digital Nails does my man justice!

Mmmm I totally nergasm over this polish! It’s specifically inspired by the chocolatey charcoal suit that the Tenth Doctor wears, and it is infused with wizardry… I mean, a crapton of holo spectraflair. It’s mainly a charcoal silvery holo with some golden brown flashes, which is so unique! In some light it looks almost black, but in others it looks silvery gold. I love it!

And just check out this closeup:

Look at that holo flash!

And here’s a pic in slightly different lighting that makes it look a bit more black:

Such a gorgeous polish!

Such a gorgeous polish!

I am loving this polish! It’s beautiful in any lighting AND it’s named for my man crush! How could you go wrong?!

Oh and sidenote – as I’m sure you can tell from the closeup pics, the skin around my nails is a bit on the dry side. I just received a new cuticle oil to review from Rica, so I’m going to use that for a bit and am hoping it’ll help my dry finger skin! Next week, I’ll update you on how I like it!

Anyways, how do you like this holo? Do you have any Digital Nails polishes? If so, what’s your favorite?

Jungle wallpaper manicure: January NCC #2

When I was trying to brainstorm manicures based on wallpaper, the first thing that came to mind was the guest bathroom in a relative’s home in Staten Island. Whenever I’d visit as I was growing up, I was impressed with the 80s/90s-era chic jungle wallpaper in that little bathroom – slightly tacky, but a fun and playful choice for a bathroom lol. And what better place to recreate that than on my nails?!

My Jungle-Chic Wallpaper Manicure

I actually think my manicure looks very similar to the wallpaper I remember! It was a dark green background with different shades of green leaves and flowers all over. So my manicure was designed to represent that.

I double stamped different tropical images, which ended up being my first successful double stamped mani! I previously did one (see it here) that was double stamped with plaid images, and it just looked too busy. But I really like this version – I think stamping in different shades of the same color really makes it blend better!

It is a little difficult to see the bottom stamped image because it’s a bit darker, but it does peek through the tips of the nails a bit.

Anyways, I really like how this came out! It certainly looks better on my nails than it did as a wallpaper! Oh and can I say that I’m still loving the crap out of using liquid latex as a cleaning product?! It makes the end clean-up SO much easier after stamping!!

Here’s what I used:

  • Base color: Zoya Hunter
  • Stamping plates: MoYou London Tropical collection 03 and 04
  • Bottom stamping polish: Barry M Kiwi
  • Top stamping polish: Rica Summer Mint

Purple flakie gradient manicure with stamped accent

Hi sweeties! Happy Friday! It’s colder than a witches teat here in PA, and I’m just counting down the days until it warms up again. I hope y’all are keeping warm! For today’s manicure, I really wanted something vivid. I didn’t like the base color I chose but didn’t want to start from the beginning, so I ended up layering and dabbing and stamping until I liked it!

So that Julep bottle I’m holding is the polish I used as my base color, Ariana. I originally was going to just wear that alone, but I didn’t like it so much. It’s a berry-leaning eggplant purple with a lot of silvery shimmer, and the formula was pretty crappy – gloopy but weirdly thin, and it took forever to dry. Anyways, I decided that instead of starting over with another mani altogether, I’d just throw a bunch of other stuff on it until I liked the result! 🙂

So I layered Orly’s Purple Poodle over that Julep, and I just love the result! Purple Poodle is this raspberry jelly polish with some purple and blue microglitter, and it really warmed up the Julep polish but still let a bit of shimmer shine through. I know I slapped some other stuff on top of that combo, but you can see it at the base of my nails and behind the stamp.

And can we just talk about those flakies?! I am officially deeply in love with multichrome flakies! I Love Nail Polish did such a great job with this line – I was lucky enough to win 6 in a giveaway, and I bought a few extra as well since I love them so! I chose one that leaned strongly purple/blue (Luna), and it matched perfectly to the base color!

Just look at those flakies!!

Just look at those flakies!!

As you can see in that closeup, Luna leans mostly raspberry purple, but shifts to teal, blue, pink, gold, and a smidge of green! In certain lighting, the flakies blend into the rest of the polish but will come alive if you move your hands. I love it!

An odd angle to show off more flakie goodness

An odd angle to show off more flakie goodness!

I love this above picture just for the bottle shot! I wanted to show you different angles so you could see more of the flakie shift.

Products used:

  • Base color: Julep Ariana… as described above – a yucky no-good polish, but a surprisingly good base for this!
  • Jelly topper: Orly Purple Poodle… warm raspberry jelly with purple and blue microglitters.
  • Stamping plate: MoYou London Suki 04
  • Stamping polish: Essie Nothing Else Metals… a light silvery lavender chrome that is perfect for stamping!
  • Flakie: ILNP Luna… described and shown in detail above. I just dabbed this over the top half of my nail a few times. It’s amazingly opaque in 2-3 coats on its own, so you see it real well in this mani.

So what do you think? Do you ever do this type of thing for a mani – just layer/ dabble/ stamp and add things until you love it or just have to start over? Are you staying warm this frigid part of winter? Have a great weekend!!

Holo Humpday: Indigo Bananas Galactic Halo (holo version)

Hello sweeties! This post is going to be picture heavy because this holographic polish is a BEAUTY! I felt like it was a high fashion model and I was giving it its own photo shoot, like “work it gurl!” For today’s holo humpday, I give you Indigo Bananas Galactic Halo (holo version, naturally)!

Indigo Bananas Galactic Halo (holo)

Indigo Bananas Galactic Halo (holo)

She’s working it alright! This is one of those polishes that looks great in the bottle but just makes your jaw drop when it’s on the nail. Galactic Halo is described on the site as a lavender to copper chrome flakie and linear holographic polish in a clear base. Depending on the light and angle, you can see magenta, teal, gold, green, and even silvery chrome. It’s real sheer on the first coat, but builds to opacity in 2-3 coats.

In person, it’s super dynamic! I am in love with this stunner!

Here it is in a few more different angles:

I bought the mini bottle of this, but I can definitely see myself getting a full-size! It’s so beautiful! I just love how Indigo Bananas always takes a new trend and puts their own spin on it – you see so many multichrome flakies now, but putting it in a holo base? Genius!

What do you think? Do you like the new flakie craze? I personally love it, but there are so many out there now! Which is your favorite?

First Attempt at a Quatrefoil Mani: January NCC #1

Happy Monday sweeties! I’ve gotten so used to vacation, I’m not ready to go back to work! But girl’s gotta make a living right? Anyways, on to the nail art! This month’s Nail Challenge Collaborative theme is wallpaper. This was initially super intimidating to me because all I could think about was tons of intricate detail work, and I’m definitely still working on my detail work. But hey, it’s a new year and I’d love to improve my freehand skills!

So keeping that in mind, my first wallpaper pattern is a modern design and something I’ve seen in the nail art world as well – quatrefoil. I was inspired by this amazing video on YouTube by ChristabellNails. This definitely didn’t come out perfectly, but if you cross your eyes and look at it from afar, it’s super pretty! 😉

I figured I should show the mani fails along with the great ones. You can’t improve if you don’t try and fail every now and again!

I really wanted to use a new polish I picked up from Target, Essie’s Coat Couture. It’s from the new Cashmere Matte collection, and it’s just gorgeous. But it’s a satin-matte, and I should have known better than to try to do nail art with that texture again! It’s always so much more difficult since it dries super quick. But the polish itself is fantastic. It’s this beautiful mauve/ dusty purple/ brownish-grey with blue shimmer – LOVE!

And I used Rica’s Whiteout as the accent. This is my go-to white for any nail art since it’s the most opaque white polish I own. I’m starting to get low on my bottle, so it’s almost time for a repurchase!

Anyways, even though this is far from my best work, I’m happy I tried the design. I think if I use a different (non-matte) polish and work on my dotting and striping skills, this could look much better!

What do you think? Do you have any nail-related resolutions? Have you tried this quatrefoil design before?

Sparkly Leopard Print Manicure

Hello sweeties! I had a dream that I returned from my vacation to find that my holy grail red holo (Darling Diva’s The Alchemist) had faded like a mofo and was now an ugly pink. I know the minute I walk through my door, I’m going to check on that – what a nightmare! Have any of you had dreams/ nightmares about nail polish? You know you’re an addict when…

Anyways! For today’s manicure, I basically just grabbed a few polishes I hadn’t worn yet and played! I hadn’t done leopard print in a real long time, so I decided that needed to happen, and I accented it with a gorgeous vivid coral and a flakie top coat.

Despite being one of those quickly thrown-together manis, I think it came out pretty cohesive! I usually do leopard print with the lighter shade as the base, so this was a bit different for me. Instead of using three colors (one for the base color, one for the blobby spots, and one to outline), I just used two since I couldn’t think of a good color for the blobby spots.

I really like how the shimmer of the coral Digital Nails still shows up in the leopard print! It’s such a gorgeous polish!

Leopard print + shimmer + flakes = love!

Leopard print + shimmer + flakes = love!

I bought the Digital Nails polish (Super Temp) solely for the name. It’s Doctor Who-themed (surprised much?!) and based on Donna Noble, who is definitely in my top 2 companions on the show (and the most important person in the world). So even though I bought the polish just for sassy Miss Donna, I am in LUUUUURVE with it!

Oi Spaceman! Here’s a closeup:

I also decided to finally utilize a flakie top coat that was a huge lemming for me and was recently squashed. Zoya Chloe is perfect red-orange-yellow-green shifty flakie goodness all in a little bottle. I’ve had Opal (which is the blue-green flakie version) for awhile and have been lusting over the hard-to-find Chloe. So happy to own it now!

Here’s a closeup of Zoya Chloe:

Polishes used:

  • Index & middle finger:
    • Base color – OPI Malaga Wine… this is a gorgeous deep brick red creme. It’s such a perfect polish – I need to wear it again! I think it’d also be a great pedicure color.
    • Leopard print – Digital Nails Super Temp detailed on with a small dotting tool
  • Ring finger: Digital Nails Super Temp… this beauty is a very bright coral orangey-pink with gold microflakies and some golden shimmer. I love love LOVE this polish!
  • Pinky:
    • Base color: OPI Malaga Wine
    • Top color: Zoya Chloe

Do you buy polishes if the name or inspiration hits you where it counts? I’m such a sucker for themed polish – I hope I’m not the only one here 😉 I think I probably own [number not listed due to utter ridiculousness] Doctor Who polishes, and I just know that if another well-named one comes out I’m going to snatch it up too!

I hope everyone’s New Years has been safe and happy! It’s 2015 y’all!
