Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer collection + Welcome back post!

Hello my dear sweeties! It’s been WAY too long, right?! I took a loooong break from blogging and the nail polish world for, what, 3 months? Sheesh – so long! I went on a long vacation, moved down south, and started a new job where I can’t wear nail polish. So yeah, it was break time from the blog. I’m back though! I think I’ll be posting less frequently than 3 times a week, but I’m definitely going to continue blogging!

Aaaaanyways, one thing that got put off a bit longer than I meant was the sharing of this lovely new collection, Leave the Sun Behind Me by Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer. The always lovely Julie sent me her new polish collection for review, and it was released 8/24 (see? Bad blogger, I should have posted this awhile back!). It is still mostly available, so I don’t feel as terrible for sharing it late – you can still get your hands on these beauties!

This collection is based on the Wes Anderson movie, The Darjeeling Limited. I heart Wes Anderson and while this isn’t my favorite movie of his, it’s still great! And it’s a perfect movie to base a neon collection around – with all the vibrance of India as the inspiration (where the movie is set), you need an equally vibrant polish collection.

As a disclaimer, I just moved so my lighting setup is all wonky. I tried to edit the pics so the polish is as color accurate as possible. But I’ll let you know if the color is a bit off. Also, all polishes dried satin matte, so all swatches have top coat. Phew – enough jibber jabber, let’s get to the pics!

First up is Rubby. This is 3 coats with no white undies:

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Rubby

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Rubby

This neon pink is just plain stunning! It has a subtle blue-purple shimmer/ flash that comes out in the sun or whenever the indoor lighting hits it just so. The formula was perfect – no complaints!

Next up is Look at These @#$holes (amazing name, right?!). Swatched with 3 coats, no undies:

BEGL Look at These @#$holes

BEGL Look at These @#$holes

This polish is a fluorescent (FOR REAL fluorescent) red/coral pinkish orange creme with very subtle pink glass flecks. Look at These @#$holes is light sensitive, so make sure you keep it hidden away until you use it… like a ninja. Julie is so great with her customer service that she makes sure you know about the risk of the color change AND discounts the polish to boot (imagine that, a polish company who warns you thoroughly about any possible defects… so lovely… I’m looking at you Mentality ahem *cough* *cough*).

My lighting and camera could NOT pick up the accurate color at all. It’s more pinky red in real life than it looks in these pics. If you look at the bottle, that’s closer to how it looks but adding in much more of a NEON vibe. Plus the glass flecks didn’t show up so great in the pics either.

There! See there really are pink glass flecks!

Next up is Stop Involving Me! This one, again, is 3 coats without undies.

BEGL Stop Involving Me!

BEGL Stop Involving Me!

This polish is like a banana chartreuse neon yellow with gold glass flecks and some coppery shimmer. It is stunning! I could have really used a 4th coat to cover up the visible nail line better, but I’m lazy and 3 coats is usually my max. So I might end up using a white undie for this polish in the future.

^ That macro for some reason picked up more of the greenish tinge of the polish. It’s more banana yellow in real life. But look at those golden glass flecks!! So gorgeous! ^

Next one up is Thanks for Using Me. Same story – 3 coats, no undies.

BEGL Thanks for Using Me

BEGL Thanks for Using Me

This beauty is a fluorescent kelly green creme with golden blue-green microshimmer. The formula is perfection, and I just love this one on! In real life, it’s a bit less pastel and really more deeper neon kelly green.

Last from this collection is It’s In The Itinerary. Broken record here – 3 coats, no undies.

BEGL It's In The Itinerary

BEGL It’s In The Itinerary

This stunner is a vivid Barney purple jelly filled with multichrome flakies. The flakies shift from aqua to blue, green, pink, and even gold. Even though my pics show some visible nail line, it wasn’t apparent in real life. I just adore this one! I think it’s my favorite in the collection – the flakies give it so much depth!

Love that one!!

Now for the BEGL portion of the Destination Polish collaboration with Monster Polish! Monster Polish & BEGL released the Wish Upon A Star Duo on 8/31, and it’s still available! BEGL As Dreamers Do is based on a night view of the Cinderella castle at Disney World.

BEGL As Dreamers Do

This is 2 coats of the polish – it’s a black jelly base with pink and blue microshimmer and pink glass flakies. For a fairly simple polish, it really is surprisingly gorgeous! I love the depth that the shimmer gives.

OK… and last but definitely not least, I wanted to share a limited edition polish. This unfortunately is no longer available, so I’m sorry for inducing polish envy. But you have to see how beautiful this is and what a polish genius Julie is!

BEGL Limited Edition: 40/41

BEGL Limited Edition: 40/41

My lighting made this look all wonky, so I tried to color edit it. In real life, this polish is a deep vivid green-leaning teal crelly with bright blue glass flakies. My pic makes it look a bit more greyed / washed out than it really is. This was 2 coats with no undies, and I love it so much! I wore this to the beach and got so many compliments!

So much love!!

Phew! Alright, for my first post back after an extended break, this was a long one! Geez, I promise they’ll be back to the normal length soon. But wasn’t it worth it?! This collection is amazeballs – neon + shimmery flakie goodness? YES please!

These polishes are all still available (except the limited edition teal, sorry again about that!), so hurry up and grab them!!

80s glitter and holo skittlette

Hello sweeties!

River Song hello sweetie doctor who

Yup ^that^!

Happy Friday! I’m going to be working a loooooong shift today (probably 30 hours), so I decided I needed some amazingly fun nails to get me through! What are a few of my favorite things? The 80s, Doctor Who, glitter, neon, and holos! So let’s put them all together in one mani, and what do we get?

My glitter and holo skittlette

My glitter and holo skittlette

Mmm hmm – exactly what I thought! Throw some of my favorite polishes together, and you get a color scheme out of the 80s… perfection! I just love these all together (and separately)!

80s glitter and holo skittlette

80s glitter and holo skittlette

I just knew that neon pink would go perfectly with the rest! Get ready, ’cause here come some closeups:

For some reason, the above closeup wanted to photograph more teal. In reality the base holo is more emerald (see below closeup). But I wanted to show off the glitter 🙂

Whoa baby, right?!

Polishes used:

  • Pinky (and thumb): China Glaze Glow With The Flow… This is another winner from the new Electric Nights collection. Perfect formula, AND it’s a true neon pink! I love this one so much. It’s going to be an absolutely perfect polish for my toes!
  • Index: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Mickey Smith, Defending the Earth… This is one of my favorite BEGLs of all time! It’s from her amazing Doctor Who collection (The It Got Away From Me, Yeah… collection), and it’s a GORGEOUS emerald green/ hunter green holo. LOVE! Mickey Smith is not my favorite character, but the polish based on him is a definite favorite!
  • Middle & ring fingers:
    • Base color: BEGL Mickey Smith, Defending the Earth
    • Topper: Digital Nails Wibbly Wobbly v2.0… This is a great glitter topper based on my favorite Doctor (Ten, duh!) and his famous line from Blink about time being all wibbly wobbly, timey wimey. It’s a clear base packed with small emerald green hexes, matte chartreuse, neon pink, and blue glitters, and large blue holographic circles. The v2.0 just refers to it being a slight reformulation of an older version. I love this! It was so easy to get all the glitters out! I only used one full coat plus a little dabbing to get out a variety of glitter.

What do you think? Does this scream 80s to you? If you did a mani filled with your favorite things, what would it look like?

And now for your daily David Tennant!

Glitter chevron skittlette manicure

Hello sweeties! While I’m away on vacation, I wanted to share with you a slightly older manicure of mine. It’s one of those “throw a bunch of random things together and maybe it’ll look ok?” type of manis, which I always love! And this mani involves glitter… also LOVE! The only issue with glitter for me – it gets everywhere and you’ll find pieces of glitter in random places 23 days after you’ve worn it on your nails. I swear I’ll pick off microglitters from my face way after it’s been removed!

Glitter herpes, demetri martin

Demetri Martin had it right… damn glitter herpes! It’s the gift that keeps giving, whether you want it or not!

Anyways, here’s my herpes mani? Nope… that sounds awful. Note to self – do NOT ever call a manicure your “herpes mani.” So, here’s my glitter chevron skittlette! That’s nicer, although it’s easier to call it a herpes mani LOL.

My glitter chevron skittlette mani

My glitter chevron skittlette mani

Much prettier than herpes right? Geez, I need to stop talking about the herp!

Just look at that purple!

Just look at that purple!

I really liked how this came out! I wanted to break out my chevron vinyls because it’s such an easy way to get a beautiful accent.

And don’t all the polishes go well together?! When I’m choosing polishes to throw together, I tend to use one with multiple colored glitters or shimmer. Then it’s easy to choose the other polishes – I just take some of the accented glitter colors and try to match them! So for this mani, I first chose the KBShimmer crelly glitter Meow or Never. That polish has some purple and blue matte glitters, so I picked out a brighter purple and a blue glitter!

Here’s a closeup of Meow or Never:

KBShimmer Meow or Never

KBShimmer Meow or Never

Please excuse the yellowed cuticle area! I was playing around with a yellow chartreuse holo (which looked TERRIBLE on me FYI), and it stained like a mother.

And here’s a closeup of the gorgeous blue glitter:

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer 2000 Years

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer 2000 Years

Love this SO much! Despite this being the offending glitter polish, I adore it!

Polishes/ products used:

  • Index finger: China Glaze Plur-ple… This gorgeous purple is another from the new Electric Nights collection! The formula on this one was perfection (I had pooling/ uneven issues with the other purple in the collection), and the color is stunning! I LOVE this bright almost neon purple!
  • Middle finger:
  • Ring finger: BEGL 2000 Years… This stunning ocean blue microglitter has bits of silvery holo glitter interspersed with the rest, and I love it so hard! I used 3 coats for full opacity (I could have gotten away with 2, but I wanted the tips to be more opaque). It’s also part of Julie’s amazing Doctor Who collection (The It Got Away From Me, Yeah… collection), and it’s based on Rory and Amy, some of the Doctor’s companions. This name gets me in the feels – the love Rory has for Amy is something everyone should strive for!
  • Pinky: KBShimmer Meow or Never… This gorgeous crelly glitter has a beautiful pale grey base that almost leans a bit purple. Matte glitters in dark blue, grey, purple, and light blue are packed in the base and easy to get on the nail. This was from the newest Spring 2015 collection, and it’s perfection! I used 2 coats.

So that’s that! I think I mentioned herpes more than a Valtrex ad. Hopefully that didn’t turn you off and you stuck around for the mani! If you stuck around, what do you think? Do you like this kind of “kitchen sick” manicure where you throw a bunch of random things together?

And here’s your daily David Tennant:

Sparkly Penguin Manicure featuring Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Terrific Twos: February NCC #2

Hello my sweeties. Last week was a rough one at work, so this weekend was a much needed break! I had a date night with the husband and I went to a concert, which definitely lifted my mood! I also decided I needed to add some sparkle to this next mani to keep this mood up.

Sparkly penguin manicure

Sparkly penguin manicure

Julie from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer sent me Terrific Twos for review, and I knew it would give this penguin manicure a little extra something. Julie made it for the 2nd anniversary of her blog. It’s teal, sky blue, aqua, and turquoise microglitter packed densely in a clear base. This is SUCH a gorgeous color glitter! And it’s fully opaque on its own in 2-3 coats. I could have gotten away with 2 coats, but I dabbed on a third to cover a few patchy areas near the tips.

Here’s a closeup of Terrific Twos:

Closeup of Terrific Twos

Closeup of Terrific Twos

Apparently on the nail I just showed, I didn’t dab enough at the tips. But you can tell the rest of the nail is fully opaque!

Another pic of my sparkly penguin mani

Another pic of my sparkly penguin mani

And I think Terrific Two goes perfectly with the penguins! So let’s talk about these penguins 🙂 This is my first time doing freehand animals of any type, and I love how they came out! I wanted chubby penguins with cute little wings, and I think they more or less came out that way. I think I should have angled the wings down a bit since they could almost make the whole animal look like a duck with a narrow neck. But I see it as a penguin, and I hope you do as well!

How I did this/ products used:

  • Index & pinky: BEGL Terrific Twos… SO gorgeous! I used 2 coats of top coat since it is a bit hungry for that.
  • Middle & ring fingers:
    • Base color: BEGL It’s Almost After Midnight… this is a charcoal grey crelly with a strong blue shimmer. It’s difficult to see its beauty in these pics since it’s covered in nail art, but I swear it’s there! I’ll have to swatch it by itself for you sometime – love!
    • Then I used Rica Whiteout to outline the penguin shape.
    • I made the eyes with Rica Blackout and Whiteout using a dotting tool.
    • I drew the beak and feet with Marc Jacobs Snap! using a small nail art brush.
    • Then I drew on the wings with BEGL It’s Almost After Midnight using that same nail art brush.

So what do you think? Have you done animal nail art? If I didn’t say it was a penguin, would you have recognized it? Also, what’s your way to lift your spirits after a bad week/ day/ month? Here’s hoping for a better week this week! 🙂

Holo Humpday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

Hello sweeties! I am slowly working my way through all the many polishes I bought from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s Doctor Who-themed collection (the It Got Away From Me, Yeah… collection). Today, I’m sharing one of my favorites – Void Stuff! I have a lot of pictures because my camera freaked out at its gorgeousness and I tried a bunch of different angles and lighting.

Void Stuff is based on my man, David Tennant aka the 10th Doctor. Specifically, “Void Stuff” is something that surrounds people who have traveled to a parallel universe and is able to be seen via 3D glasses. This is a part of the most heartbreaking episode that makes me curl up in the fetal position ugly crying EVERY time I watch it!

Anyways, onto the polish!

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

Void Stuff is a deep teal-green linear holo with subtle blue to red shifting flecks. In some lighting, it looks like a dark aquamarine (as in the above pic). And in other pics, it looks darker and slightly more teal.

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

And the pic right there shows what it looks like in most lighting.

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

The pic above is in different lighting that unfortunately also makes my skin look super jaundiced. But it does show off some of the green-tinge to the holo.

And an obligatory closeup:

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

The closeup is probably the most color accurate pic I was able to get. Plus it shows some of the blue-red flecks!

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Void Stuff

And I took a slightly blurry pic of the bottle to show off the blue-red flecks! I think that might have to be a new phone background for me!

So I adore this polish – it’s yet another BEGL win! And since it’s David Tennant in Doctor Who-themed, it’s a double win! The formula is amazing, the holo is strong, and the color is gorgeous. You can’t lose. When I saw swatches of this beauty, I guessed it was going to be my favorite. And I wasn’t wrong – this is definitely in my top 3 of the IGAFMY collection!

What do you think? Do you own Void Stuff? Are you as much of a crybaby as me when it comes to watching the Doomsday Doctor Who episode?

Splattered Wallpaper: January NCC #4

Hello sweeties! I’ve definitely acquired the winter viral crud that’s going around, so my creativity for this last NCC look is a bit lacking. I saw Love Varnish’s recent post in which she did a beautiful splatter manicure, and I wanted to try her technique out. I’ve always had difficulty doing splatter manis, so I was eager to try out some of Deborah’s suggestions.

My splatter manicure

My splatter manicure

Deborah recommended using a shorter straw, so I cut down a straw until it was about 2-3 inches long. And it made such a huge difference! It used to take me multiple attempts to even get the polish to leave the straw, but this was quick and easy.

My favorite result:

Closeup of my favorite nail!

Closeup of my favorite nail!

I think of this as either splatter wallpaper OR a wall that someone has thrown paint over to cover ugly  red wallpaper.

Polishes used:

  • Index, Middle, and Ring Finger base color: Julep Maryam… this polish looked so much nicer in the bottle. It’s a deep burgundy red with golden shimmer throughout, but when it’s on the nail the golden shimmer falls flat and it ends up looking like a muddy brick red. Shame – it could have been so pretty!
  • Splatter colors:
    • Essie Strut Your Stuff… this is a gorgeous bright blue that leans slightly turquoise. It stains like crazy, but it’s so pretty.
    • Essie Good as Gold… a perfect metallic gold.
  • Pinky & Thumb: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Bound to the City Life… this is from the new Spark in the Dark collection, and I am so happy I picked this one up! It’s a beautiful dark teal jelly that has multicolored microglitters throughout, giving it depth. I only had to use two coats for opacity. It does photograph a bit more royal blue, but in real life it’s a mix of royal blue and dark teal. I love it! It’s another winner from BEGL!

What do you think? Do you have any other suggestions to make splatter manis easier?

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Newly Impassioned Soul in a Girly Wallpaper design: January NCC #3

Hello sweeties!! Today I have two things to share with you – another gorgeous Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer polish, and my third wallpaper look for January’s Nail Challenge Collaborative. Julie from BEGL sent me this beautiful pink polish from her My Indecisive Valentine collection for review, and it’s called Newly Impassioned Soul. I put this baby on and immediately thought it’d be the perfect base for a girly wallpaper design!

NIS is this baby pink yet still almost neon crelly with loads of iridescent microflakies. It almost leans a bit more jelly than crelly – I used three coats and still had some visible nail line. If I was wearing this alone I would throw a 4th coat on for opacity, but I was planning on stamping over it so I left it at three.

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Newly Impassioned Soul

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Newly Impassioned Soul

Isn’t it beautiful? So girly and feminine with a little bit of modern edge from the flakies! My camera freaked out at how pretty it is too.

Closeup of BEGL Newly Impassioned Soul

Closeup of BEGL Newly Impassioned Soul

See those flakies? Love! This is the kind of color that could be all over a little girls’ bedroom decor, so I decided it would be perfect for my Girly Wallpaper Mani!

Girly Wallpaper Manicure

Girly Wallpaper Manicure

What better to adorn a little girls’ walls than flowers/ roses? I really like how this came out! I was originally going to use a lace image to stamp with, but it covered the pink way too much. And flowers are quintessentially girly!

Growing up I would have died if this was in my room – I was far from a girly girl. But I could totally see this in some chic and girly girl’s room!

Products used:

  • Base color: BEGL Newly Impassioned Soul
  • Stamping plates:
    • Pinky & Ring finger: Konad m65
    • Middle & Index fingers: Shany SH208
  • Stamping polish: Rica Whiteout… amazing opaque white creme!

What do you think? Does this look like wallpaper you’d have in your room growing up? Do you like this BEGL?

Oh! Before I forget – Newly Impassioned Soul is on sale on BEGL’s site! So if you like it, go pick it up!
