Simple Mani with Born Pretty Holographic Stars

Another item I was sent to review from Born Pretty was a collection of holographic stars. I don’t tend to use a lot of studs or other 3D-type additions to my manicure, but I thought I’d try these out.

I like the variety of colors they provide and how many stars come with it. They look like they could be a really great addition to a colorful manicure for some fun nail art. However, they don’t lay flat which isn’t the worst thing, but it bothers me. I tend not to like things on my nails that will catch on my clothes or hair. Also, some of the colors bleed a little if you put top coat over the stars. If you look at my pinky, the orange/yellow bleeds into the white polish a bit. It’s not awful, but I don’t think I’ll be using these unless it’s a short-lived mani where I don’t really need to keep the stars locked in place with top coat.

The white I used as a base color is OPI Alpine Snow, and I used Seche Vite as my top coat (which usually doesn’t smear nail art, so I figured it’d be ok over these).

Born Pretty Stamping Plate Review

Another item I recently received for review (say that 3 times fast!) from Born Pretty is a really pretty stamping plate with floral designs. As you can see below, there are 4 full nail stamps with 5 smaller leaf/ floral images.

Pretty designs, right? To test it out, I used one of my favorite polishes for stamping – Essie Good As Gold over OPI Koala Bear-y.

The images were etched into the plate very well, and it was incredibly easy to get a good stamp. I love all the patterns on the plate, and it was surprisingly great quality for such a low price ($2.99)! The image on my ring finger would be great for leadlighting. I will definitely be using this one again!

Flower Manicure/ Born Pretty Review

I was recently sent a few items to review from the Born Pretty store, which I’m sure you’ve heard of. If not, it’s a great site where there are tons of items ranging from nail art (obviously my favorite section) to tech accessories or other beauty supplies. I picked up a few things that will be reviewed in some upcoming posts.

You can use my code, CXB10, for 10% off on the site!

First off is a set of 3 nail art brushes that I used to do this simple flower and leaf manicure:

And here are the 3 brushes:

They’re fairly short in brush length and a bit thick, which I found easy to use for thicker lines. For this mani, I just used the middle one for the leaf vines. It was easy to work with – nice and flexible, pretty much you would expect from a good brush! If you don’t have nail art brushes, I’d recommend these if you don’t want to go for a larger or more expensive set (these are $1.99).

Here are some more pics of my flower manicure:

Base color: Polish My Life Muscat Martini (an absolutely gorgeous pastel purple with a great formula – I’m really in love with this brand now!)

Flowers: China Glaze Pool Party

Leaf Vines: Zoya Hunter

Random “free leaves:” Essie Naughty Nautical

Colorful French manicure

Meh… that’s pretty much my thought on this manicure. I don’t hate it, but I certainly don’t love it. I like each color separately, I like the combo of them together, and it’s not messy or anything. But there’s something about it that I’m not thrilled about. I’m not a huge fan of French manicures for myself – I think they’re pretty and classy but never enjoy the look on my own nails.
