Needle drag manicure: April NCC #3

Hello sweeties! Time for another manicure recreation! Today, I’ve chosen a gorgeous mani done by Lisa of The Polish Playground. She did this color blend mani (see her blog post here), which was before I joined the group. But I went back through old pics and found her version of a needle drag manicure!

Not this kind of drag:

rocky horror picture show, Frank n Furter how bout that, tim curry

Ahhh I love Rocky Horror! I’ve been to many a midnight showing. Magenta used to be my go-to Halloween costume, and people who weren’t familiar with the movie/ play would think I was just some messed up french maid lol.

I’ve chosen to do a slightly brighter version:

I wanted bright, and where have I been going for bright colors recently? To the China Glaze Electric Nights collection of course! (wow I’m being super corny today!) I chose the bright red-orange neon as my base – it’s photographing more orange than it is in person. But it’s SO freaking neon! I love this one!

Just wow, right?! So bright!

Needle drag manicure

Polishes used/ how I did this:

  • Base color: China Glaze Red-y To Rave… This is another one of the Electric Nights polishes. The formula is perfect (only needed 2 coats for opacity) and this neon red-orange coral is such a great color!
  • I then painted thick vertical stripes of the following colors:
    • China Glaze Red-y To Rave
    • Polish My Life 1950s Mint Fridge… I’ve mentioned this gorgeous aqua teal before. It’s perfection πŸ™‚
    • Color Club Baldwin Blues… This is a gorgeous deep teal that I have in a mini bottle (I think I got it in some Birchbox a long time ago).
  • Then I took the most narrowΒ dotting tool and dragged it horizontally to blend them all.

What do you think? Have you done this needle drag technique before? What color combos do you like to drag together?

Holo Blobbicure

Hello sweeties! It’s FRIDAY! And it’s a holiday for some of you – even better! Those of you who have a long weekend, enjoy it! Enjoy your family and friends and perhaps some chocolate?

Chocolate counts as a salad

Yup, my thoughts exactly!

And as always, I digress… NAILS! We all love nail polish! So let’s chat more about that, eh? I’ve been mildly obsessed with the All Things Vintage collection from Polish My Life, so I’ve been using them in a bunch of different manis recently.

Holo and pastel blobbicure

Holo and pastel blobbicure

And this is what I came up with today! It’s holo meets skittlette meets pastel meets blobbicure! I love these colors so much, and I really enjoyed blobbing them all together πŸ™‚

More blobs!

More blobs!

I did have to redo the blobby nails a few times. I think the white base coat dried too quickly, so I’d dab on blobs of polish and they’d just sit there looking like a stupid dotted mess. So I had to work pretty quickly in order to get this look.

And here’s a closeup:

Closeup of the pretty blobby bits :)

Polishes used/ how I did this:

  • Index & Middle finger:
    • Base polish: Polish My Life Stripped… This is one of my favorite white polishes! It’s creamy and perfectly opaque in 2 coats. For best white polishes, it’s a close 3rd after Rica Whiteout & KBShimmer Eyes White Open!
    • Blobbed colors:
      • Polish My Life 1950s Mint Fridge… This beautiful mint green is perfection! Great formula, gorgeous color, and just divine! πŸ™‚
      • Polish My Life Springtime Blues… As with all PML pastel cremes, this is also perfection. It’s a beautiful mid-tone blue – not too dark, not too light, but still so vivid and colorful!
      • Color Club Harp on It… The perfect silver holo! The halo hues are just plain amazing, and this one is no different!
  • Ring finger: I Love Nail Polish Music Box… a gorgeous minty aqua holo. So pretty! It doesn’t match perfectly to PML 1950s Mint Fridge, but it’s pretty close so I’ll give it a pass! πŸ™‚
  • Pinky (& thumb): Color Club Harp on It

What do you think? Do you like multicolored blobbicures? Do you have a long weekend ahead? If so, any fun plans?

And now for your daily David Tennet!

Nude Gold Polish Comparison Plus Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

I have an amazing polish to show you today! But before that, I want to show you a comparison of a few nude gold nail polishes. My post this past Wednesday featured I Love Nail Polish Iconic, and I mentioned that it was really similar to a few other polishes of mine. So I would like to show you a quick comparison!

Bottle shot!

Bottle shot!

See? They look super similar in the bottle! From left to right, there’s ILNP Iconic, Color Club Cherubic, and Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition.

And on my nails:

Comparison shot

Comparison shot

As you can tell, on the nails they are similar but not dupes! On my index finger and pinky – Color Club Cherubic, middle finger – ILNP Iconic, and ring finger – Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition.

Color wise, Iconic is more yellow gold while the other 2 are more nude gold. And Blonde Ambition is a bit darker than Cherubic, with Cherubic having some silver undertones. From a formula perspective, Iconic was the thinnest requiring 3-4 coats for opacity. The other two were comparable in formula, with just 2 coats to reach opacity.

Anyways, no dupes here! However, they are similar so if you aren’t a crazy polishaholic like me, you probably don’t need them all πŸ™‚ I think my favorite is Blonde Ambition since it looks best with my skin tone, but they’re all beautiful!

OK… and finally, I want to show you my new Cadillacquer polish! It’s my first polish of this brand, and I love it so much! It’s goooorgeous!

Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

So so pretty! That blue is so great on its own, and then there are those stunning little red microglitters throughout. Yummy! I’m so happy I was able to pick this one up πŸ™‚

What do you think? Do you own any of those gold holos? Any others that you can think of as possible dupes? And jeez, how amazing is Seek the Fire? Do you have any Cadillacquers?

Nail Inspiration from an Odd Place

My dog’s collar! That’s right, this manicure you’re about to behold got its inspiration from a dog collar. I picked it up recently from Target and loved the design. I then went out for some drinks with friends, got home, and decided to do what any sane nail polish addict/ dog lover would do – paint my nails to match my dog!

Here’s my dog, Kaiser (whose attention is currently directed at the mailman hopefully dropping off some nail goodies for me!), and his beautiful new collar:

And here’s my semi-tipsy recreation dotticure based on the design:

Colorful dotticure

Colors Used:

  • Base: Rica Whiteout
  • Yellow: Sally Hansen Lightening
  • Dark Teal: Color Club Baldwin Blues
  • Light Blue: Essie Mint Candy Apple

And here’s a close-up of the nail that came out the best:

Macro dotticure

I like how it came out! Maybe it doesn’t match Kaiser’s collar exactly, and the diamonds ended up more circular… but hey, I was a bit tipsy and I still like the end product πŸ™‚ They kind of look like mosaic tiles. What do you think?

Black and White Mani: June NCC #1

June’s theme for the Nail Challenge Collaborative is Black & White. I was kind of lacking in ideas, but then I got my first order of Nail Vinyls which included the perfect chevrons. And I knew I had to use them!

1-IMG_2760

I think that was a surprisingly good photo for being taken by my iPhone in the harsh lighting of the hospital with my scrubs for a background!

For the white polish, I used Polish My Life’s Stripped. It’s one of the best white polishes I’ve ever tried! It isn’t quite the holy grail white polish where there’s zero streaking, etc. There is a thin streaky first coat, but then it covers great and smoothly with the second. I’d put it on par with OPI’s Alpine Snow.

The black is Color Club’s Beyond, which is an amazing black grey holo. And the Nail Vinyls are from @teismom or nailvinyls.storenvy.com.

Here are a few more pics:

Grey and yellow skittlette: May NCC #3

Whaaaat? Posting daily for 3 days in a row?! This is a total record for me – here’s hoping the more frequent posting sticks around.

Here comes another skittlette for the Nail Challenge Collaborative. Another favorite color combo of mine is white, grey, and yellow. I’ve seen it used in other nail artists’ manicures, baby room color palettes, clothes, etc. and I think the yellow is such a great accent color that stands out.

So here it is!

Image

My stamping could have been better – the top part of the design didn’t come out… soooo I just dotted all over it. The stamp is from the Pueen 2014 Buffet Stamping set – the set that has full plate images (a la MoYou London). I actually haven’t had much luck with getting good image stamping quality from this set – none of the ones I’ve tried have picked up very well. Maybe it’s just my set because I haven’t seen any bad reviews of it at all. So I’ll keep trying πŸ™‚

Index: China Glaze Elephant Walk… a beautiful dark cement grey with slight shimmer, with a dot of Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow

Middle Finger: CG Elephant Walk, stamp – Pueen 51, Stamping color – Konad white, dots with SH Mellow Yellow

Ring and Thumb: SH Mellow Yellow

Pinky: Color Club Harp On It

Ugh, I love that silver holo. Color Club has such amazing holos!

So that’s my 3rd skittlette mani! Check out some others:

Purple Heart Dotticure, Cork People, and First Stamping Decal

I’ve had the idea for this manicure for awhile – dotted outlines around a heart. I originally was planning on using purple and teal, but I came across an old beloved scarf that inspired the color combo.

Image

Β

Purple and an electric reddish pink – so pretty! The scarf photographs more pink, but it does have more of a reddish tinge in real life. So that’s what I did! I used my dotting tool to make the center heart and a smaller tip for the rest of the dots. I actually think my right hand (pictured above) came out better than my left.

Here’s my left hand:

Image

Β

Maybe because I was more deliberate while dotting my right hand, who knows? Anyways, I think the center hearts came out better on the right. I do, however, love my left middle finger. And that’s not just because it gets a lot of use in everyday gesturing lol!

Here’s me giving the middle finger up close:

My dotting skills still need a bit of work, but I still think this came out lovely.

Above is the left hand, and below is my right:

The right wins, yes?

Colors used:

  • Base color: Formula X for Sephora Heart-Stopping
  • Center heart and outlines: China Glaze Pool Party – a neon reddish pink, one of my favorites!
  • Color Club Eternal Beauty – the always gorgeous purple holo
