Holo Humpday: Colors by Llarowe Gemini Rising

Just a quick post today since it’s Christmas Eve and I just worked for the last 30 hours straight! I got to hang out with the mini humans, and one of our older doctors visited each room dressed up as Santa – so adorable! I really want to just go to sleep, but I couldn’t miss out on a Holo Humpday!

Today’s featured holographic nail polish is Gemini Rising by Colors by Llarowe. It’s a gorgeous vivid grass green that makes me want to drink a sour apple martini.

Isn’t that pretty? Such a strong holo! It’s a nice and easy formula, but I have heard it’s a bad stainer. This is the first time I’m wearing it and I haven’t taken it off yet, so we’ll see about that one.

Anyways, I thought it was a good color for Christmas too!

Here’s a closeup:

Big fan of this polish! And now it’s time for this sleepy lady to go to bed!

What do you think? What’s on your nails for Christmas?

Holo Humpday: Colors by Llarowe Little Red Corvette

Alright, back to my quest for the perfect primary cherry red holographic nail polish! I feel a bit like Goldilocks here – the first one I tried (Loaded Lacquer’s Double Shot of Sriracha) was too orange-toned, and the second one (Chaos & Crocodiles Security Breach) was too pink/purple-toned. Both were stunning, but they weren’t exactly what I was looking for. Here’s hoping I find one that’s juuuust right! So up for today’s Holo Humpday, I have Colors by Llarowe Little Red Corvette.

This is such a strong holo! It’s almost opaque in one coat, but I wore it with 2 to make the holo really slap you in your face! I really really love it (the polish, not slapping you in the face 😉 ). Buuut it’s still a bit more pink/purple-toned than what I was searching for.

Slightly different lighting - check out that holo flame!

So yummy! But it is more maraschino cherry than primary red cherry.

Oh well, so my quest continues. One day I’ll find what I’m looking for!

What do you think of this one? Pretty isn’t it? 🙂

My first Waterfall Mani: October’s NCC #2

My inspiration for this month’s Nail Challenge Collaborative theme of stripes is sorely lacking. I really wanted to get creative, but I’m finding it difficult! For my second look, I decided to venture into a design I haven’t done before – a waterfall manicure.

I saw the waterfall mani way back when on The Nailasaurus’ site, and I’ve always liked it but never tried. I gotta say – it’s a lot harder than it looks! Picking all the colors that are different enough yet still complementary, then making those perfect stripes that taper at the end… it’s definitely a challenge!

My attempt at the Waterfall Manicure

My attempt at the Waterfall Manicure

I’m not 100% thrilled with how it turned out. I trimmed my striping brush, but I think the stripes are still a bit wider than I’d like. But I personally like the colors I chose. I love a good peach-purple combo.

My less-than-perfect waterfall

My less-than-perfect waterfall

I think that if I were to redo this, I’d probably do another shade of purple instead of the red-orange color. Of course that’s in addition to drawing the stripes thinner and neater! But this is a first attempt, so I’m not going to beat myself up too much!

Colors used:

  • Base color: Barry M Papaya… this totally freaked my camera out! It’s a really pretty bright peach and is very similar to Essie’s Tart Deco
  • Stripes:
    • OPI Black Cherry Chutney… a goooorgeous deep eggplant purple/ almost black shimmer
    • Orly Cotton Candy… a beautiful light pink-purple
    • OPI Cajun Shrimp… a bright vivid red-orange creme
    • Colors by Llarowe Nice Melons… a coral peach holo

Have you done a waterfall manicure before? Any tips for this newbie?

Nude Gold Polish Comparison Plus Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

I have an amazing polish to show you today! But before that, I want to show you a comparison of a few nude gold nail polishes. My post this past Wednesday featured I Love Nail Polish Iconic, and I mentioned that it was really similar to a few other polishes of mine. So I would like to show you a quick comparison!

Bottle shot!

Bottle shot!

See? They look super similar in the bottle! From left to right, there’s ILNP Iconic, Color Club Cherubic, and Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition.

And on my nails:

Comparison shot

As you can tell, on the nails they are similar but not dupes! On my index finger and pinky – Color Club Cherubic, middle finger – ILNP Iconic, and ring finger – Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition.

Color wise, Iconic is more yellow gold while the other 2 are more nude gold. And Blonde Ambition is a bit darker than Cherubic, with Cherubic having some silver undertones. From a formula perspective, Iconic was the thinnest requiring 3-4 coats for opacity. The other two were comparable in formula, with just 2 coats to reach opacity.

Anyways, no dupes here! However, they are similar so if you aren’t a crazy polishaholic like me, you probably don’t need them all 🙂 I think my favorite is Blonde Ambition since it looks best with my skin tone, but they’re all beautiful!

OK… and finally, I want to show you my new Cadillacquer polish! It’s my first polish of this brand, and I love it so much! It’s goooorgeous!

Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

So so pretty! That blue is so great on its own, and then there are those stunning little red microglitters throughout. Yummy! I’m so happy I was able to pick this one up 🙂

What do you think? Do you own any of those gold holos? Any others that you can think of as possible dupes? And jeez, how amazing is Seek the Fire? Do you have any Cadillacquers?

Blue Mosaic Color Blocking: September NCC #2

For my second geometric manicure for the September NCC, I played with striping tape and ended up with what looks like an abstract R2D2. I find striping tape so annoying to work with sometimes – this manicure was certainly one of those times!

My abstract R2D2 mani

I really do love the end product though. This took foreeeever (does anyone else get flashbacks to The Sandlot here? Fooor-ev-eeer… loved that movie as a kid!). All that hassle with striping tape resulted in a really pretty manicure! I used a bunch of new polishes I recently picked up, including my very first Chaos & Crocodiles polish!

Sparkly striping tape mani

Ugh, that C&C holo is digustingly beautiful! C&C put out a Secret Agent collection, filled with a rainbow of gorgeous holos. I picked up 3 – the blue you see in this manicure (Sleeper Cell), a lavender called Decoy, and a red called Security Breach. They are all just soooo stunning. Oh! And I saw that people who bought the whole collection got a really amazing package with Secret Agent-themed items. I kind of wish I bought the whole collection now… Hey, there are always restocks right?!

Look at that Blonde Ambition in my hands! So pretty!

Anyways, I just love this manicure!

Colors used:

  • Base: OPI My Vampire Is Buff… I can’t believe I didn’t own this before now! I love this super-smooth creamy nude!
  • Barry M Damson… a stuuuunning cornflower vibrant blue! Love this so much!
  • Chaos & Crocodiles Sleeper Cell… very strong blue holo with some hues of teal. Love love love!
  • Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition… a gorgeous golden nude with a very strong linear holo. Someone posted in a polish-themed facebook group that this is almost identical to Color Club Cherubic, so you need to own one of them! I haven’t swatched them next to one another yet, so I can’t say for sure if they’re dupes (& which one you need). BUT the color and holo is to die for, so you have to have one!

So yeah, I love it! Do you see what I mean about an abstract R2D2 though? Do you have Chaos & Crocodiles polish – if so, what others are must-buys? Also, any suggestions on making striping tape less annoying?

Holo Humpday: Colors by Llarowe Best Day of My Life

As I wait for a few more candidates for my red holo quest to arrive in the mail, I figured I’d visit some of my untried/ underloved holos. Today I have a beauty from Colors by Llarowe called Best Day of My Life. Unfortunately, it’s now discontinued but I got it on a restock awhile back.

Pretty right? It’s a multichrome holo that shifts from blue to indigo, purple, and a pinkish hue. Also, if I’m remembering correctly, there was a cute story attached to this polish. I think Llarowe named it “Best Day of My Life” after the birth of her child. Unfortunately I cannot confirm that because the polish is no longer listed on her site!

That holo is so strong! The pic above shows the blue-indigo-purpleish shift.

And the one above shows a bit more of the purple-pinkish shift.

So pretty! I really love this polish! It’s an easy 2-coater that doesn’t require a black base color for opacity.

I have to say, Colors by Llarowe really has some great strong holos in her collection! I just bought a few and can’t wait to get them 🙂

That’s all from me for now. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Half Moon Recreation: July’s NCC #4

And lastly for the July’s NCC theme of recreating manis is a half-moon manicure! Unfortunately, this is also my least favorite of my recreations. I think I actually may prefer my original :/

Half Moon Manicure

My original was done back in October, so I was using darker fall colors. For this challenge, I wanted to do something more pastel-ish. So I chose some pretty glitter and a light green polish.

  • Base color: Colors by Llarowe Tazmo Kramer, a polish I got for free when ordering from llarowe on the owner’s bday – it’s like a light green-silver holo with some small teal glitter hexes in there
  • Overlying color: Zoya Bevin, almost like a dusty green/teal

I like it, but I certainly wasn’t thrilled. I used binder reinforcement stickers, and they didn’t work all that well for me this time – they would peel up all at once, smudging part of the half-moon so I had to repaint it afterwards. Do you guys use reinforcement stickers or nail vinyls? I think I might have to invest in nail vinyls for this one!

Here’s a comparison pic of my old vs new:

Half Moon manicures

My original used Zoya Carey (the light grey) and OPI Russian Navy (the gorgeous dark navy shimmer). My cleanup still needed work at that point, but I loved that color combo!

Ah well, you can’t win them all! Check out the other recreations:
