Holo Humpday: Digital Nails Allons-y!

Hello sweeties! If you’ve read this blog at all, you know I’m a total nerd for Doctor Who. When I was introduced to the brand, Digital Nails, I knew it was a nerd-match made in heaven – Raphaelle (the maker) is also a big Whovian, and there are SO many DW-themed polishes to choose from. Today I have an amazingly beautiful polish by Digital Nails – Allons-y!

Digital Nails Allons-y!

Digital Nails Allons-y!

Allons-y (“let’s go” in French) is the catchphrase of the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant who is beautiful and silly and has perfectly tousled hair. He is definitely my favorite Doctor, so any polish inspired by him is right up my alley! And this beauty by Digital Nails does my man justice!

Om nom nom nom... My man, David Tennant, as the Tenth Doctor

Mmmm I totally nergasm over this polish! It’s specifically inspired by the chocolatey charcoal suit that the Tenth Doctor wears, and it is infused with wizardry… I mean, a crapton of holo spectraflair. It’s mainly a charcoal silvery holo with some golden brown flashes, which is so unique! In some light it looks almost black, but in others it looks silvery gold. I love it!

And just check out this closeup:

Look at that holo flash!

And here’s a pic in slightly different lighting that makes it look a bit more black:

Such a gorgeous polish!

Such a gorgeous polish!

I am loving this polish! It’s beautiful in any lighting AND it’s named for my man crush! How could you go wrong?!

Oh and sidenote – as I’m sure you can tell from the closeup pics, the skin around my nails is a bit on the dry side. I just received a new cuticle oil to review from Rica, so I’m going to use that for a bit and am hoping it’ll help my dry finger skin! Next week, I’ll update you on how I like it!

Anyways, how do you like this holo? Do you have any Digital Nails polishes? If so, what’s your favorite?

Sparkly Leopard Print Manicure

Hello sweeties! I had a dream that I returned from my vacation to find that my holy grail red holo (Darling Diva’s The Alchemist) had faded like a mofo and was now an ugly pink. I know the minute I walk through my door, I’m going to check on that – what a nightmare! Have any of you had dreams/ nightmares about nail polish? You know you’re an addict when…

Anyways! For today’s manicure, I basically just grabbed a few polishes I hadn’t worn yet and played! I hadn’t done leopard print in a real long time, so I decided that needed to happen, and I accented it with a gorgeous vivid coral and a flakie top coat.

Despite being one of those quickly thrown-together manis, I think it came out pretty cohesive! I usually do leopard print with the lighter shade as the base, so this was a bit different for me. Instead of using three colors (one for the base color, one for the blobby spots, and one to outline), I just used two since I couldn’t think of a good color for the blobby spots.

I really like how the shimmer of the coral Digital Nails still shows up in the leopard print! It’s such a gorgeous polish!

Leopard print + shimmer + flakes = love!

Leopard print + shimmer + flakes = love!

I bought the Digital Nails polish (Super Temp) solely for the name. It’s Doctor Who-themed (surprised much?!) and based on Donna Noble, who is definitely in my top 2 companions on the show (and the most important person in the world). So even though I bought the polish just for sassy Miss Donna, I am in LUUUUURVE with it!

Oi Spaceman! Here’s a closeup:

I also decided to finally utilize a flakie top coat that was a huge lemming for me and was recently squashed. Zoya Chloe is perfect red-orange-yellow-green shifty flakie goodness all in a little bottle. I’ve had Opal (which is the blue-green flakie version) for awhile and have been lusting over the hard-to-find Chloe. So happy to own it now!

Here’s a closeup of Zoya Chloe:

Polishes used:

  • Index & middle finger:
    • Base color – OPI Malaga Wine… this is a gorgeous deep brick red creme. It’s such a perfect polish – I need to wear it again! I think it’d also be a great pedicure color.
    • Leopard print – Digital Nails Super Temp detailed on with a small dotting tool
  • Ring finger: Digital Nails Super Temp… this beauty is a very bright coral orangey-pink with gold microflakies and some golden shimmer. I love love LOVE this polish!
  • Pinky:
    • Base color: OPI Malaga Wine
    • Top color: Zoya Chloe

Do you buy polishes if the name or inspiration hits you where it counts? I’m such a sucker for themed polish – I hope I’m not the only one here 😉 I think I probably own [number not listed due to utter ridiculousness] Doctor Who polishes, and I just know that if another well-named one comes out I’m going to snatch it up too!

I hope everyone’s New Years has been safe and happy! It’s 2015 y’all!

Holo Humpday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer The Innuendo Squad

Hola! Today I’m bringing you a beautiful holo that I have been dying to wear ever since I saw the first preview swatch. It’s from my all-time favorite ginormous collection by Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer, The It Got Away From Me, Yeah… collection. This beauty is from the subset, The Gents of Doctor Who, and is based on the gorgeous man-candy Captain Jack Harkness (his eyes are blue blue blue!). His character can be summed up by the following meme (found on Fanpop):

Nipples!

Nipples! John Barrowman aka Captain Jack Harkness nipples!!

Phew! Pretty man right? A nail polish based on this guy HAS to be beautiful! And it is, it really is. This is The Innuendo Squad by BEGL, and it’s an amazing icy blue holo.

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer The Innuendo Squad

Stun-NING!! The Innuendo Squad is a light blue with silver shimmer and a nice linear holo flare. Perfect formula, and a perfect color for winter too! Oh!! And last night was the first night of Hanukkah, and blue is festively appropriate! So many exclamation points because I’m so excited!!

Here’s a closeup:

And guess what? It’s still available! The whole IGAFMY collection was restocked for the last time in awhile, so the polishes are in limited quantities. Buy Innuendo Squad here, and check out the rest of the collection while you’re at it. 🙂

What do you think? Do you love this collection as much as I do? Which ones have you picked up?

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s It Got Away From Me, Yeah… Collection: The Doctors

Phew, that was one wordy title ^ there! But what can I say, it got away from me 😉 I am SO very excited to share with you 2 polishes from the new (and final) installation of the It Got Away From Me, Yeah… Collection. Julie of Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer contacted me to help review this collection, and I promptly peed myself with joy! Reason one – I adore BEGL polishes and own almost all of the other Doctor Who-themed polishes she has made. Reason two (I’m sure you can guess this one) – I am a huge Whovian nerd, and anything to do with that show makes my heart(s) beat faster. So combining those two = pure puppy kisses and baby laughter! Plus, Julie is so great so how could I not be excited?! *These polishes as mentioned were provided for review*

The Doctors portion of the It Got Away From Me, Yeah… collection is set to release on November 30, 2014 at 3:30pm EST. Details are at the end of this post including all applicable links.

Anyways, let’s get to it! The final part of this collection is based on the Doctors. First up, I have Grandpa. This polish is based on the War Doctor – the incarnation of the 8th Doctor who fought in the Time War. He’s only featured in the Day of the Doctor and the Name of the Doctor feature episodes, and he’s the warrior of the bunch. He meets Doctors 10 & 11, and they’re tongue-in-cheek known as Chinny (11), Sandshoes (10), and Grandpa (War Doctor). The polish based on the War Doctor is a stunner! It’s an slightly off-white creme with extremely subtle gold and rose microflakies.

The pics don’t even do this polish justice. I think this looks milky white (does that make anyone else think of A League Of Their Own where Madonna is teaching a teammate how to read via a romance novel – “milky white breasts?” Just me? Alright then…). My camera really didn’t want to capture the itty bitty flakies, but I swear they’re there and they’re so pretty! I did three coats for these swatches (the first was a tad streaky as it happens with white polishes, but the 2nd and 3rd evened it out perfectly), and the formula was super easy to work with. I think this could be perfect for work, a wedding, even the beach – it’s really versatile!

And the second polish I have for you is Zero Balance Dwarf Star Alloy. This one is based on the Eleventh Doctor, and it references the type of material that makes up a “perfect cell” to house/ imprison the Doctor. This polish is a gooooorgeous black linear holo – definitely my new favorite black holo! The holo is super strong, and the formula is perfect.

And a closeup of Zero Balance Dward Star Alloy:

FYI – both polishes are shown with the Digital Nails top coat, Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That! As you can see, it didn’t dull the holo one bit!

Overall, I’m super impressed with these polishes! I think out of these two, Zero Balance Dwarf Star Alloy is the winner for me. Mainly because I’m a holo ho. But they are both gorgeous, and  you couldn’t go wrong with either!

The rest of the collection is a collaboration with Monster Polish and has 3 more gorgeous polishes (one more BEGL and 2 from Monster Polish) and some Doctor Who nail vinyls by Monster Polish. Oh, and Julie is also releasing another Siren polish (I’ve seen some swatches, and it looks amazing too!)!

The other It Got Away From Me, Yeah… polishes:

  • Monster Polish What’s Wrong With This Jumper? (Ninth Doctor): black holographic with purple shimmer and a satin finish
  • BEGL Void Stuff (Tenth Doctor): a deep teal/ green linear holographic with blue to red shifting glass flecks
  • Monster Polish I Was Hoping For Minimalism, But I Think I Came Out With Magician (Twelfth Doctor): deep navy blue jelly with red shimmer

Both Monster Polish and BEGL will be selling the full set, which will cost $50 and include all five bottles of polish as well as a sample set of Doctor Who vinyl decals. Each shop will have their individual bottles of their polishes listed, as well as additional vinyl decals that can be purchased at $1 for a set of 10 decals. The BEGL linear holographics and shifters will be $12, the flakies will be $10, and the cremes, shimmers, glitters, and microglitters will be $8.50. The Monster Polish glitter will be $8 and the holographic will be $9. This will be the final time that the Doctor Who polishes will be restocked, so get them while they’re still available!!

I know I plan on picking up a few more! I’ll probably get Void Stuff (because I heart Ten, and anything teal and holo should be mine), the decals, and the Monster Polish based on Twelve. Let’s be honest, I’ll probably just purchase the rest of the collection! 🙂 What do you think? Will you pick up either of these or the others from this collection? Do you have any of the other BEGL Doctor Who polishes?

Nayll creations, including Doctor Who themed polish!

This is going to be a long post filled with a lot of pictures, but I swear it’ll be worth it to get to the end!!

I’ve been drooling over the Nayll website for awhile – Sara Harvey, the owner and creator, has put together this amazing site where you design your own polish and she makes it for you! It saves all the start-up costs, mess, and testing to do on your own. I contacted her in the off-chance she might need a swatcher, and she was kind enough to give me a discount for my purchase and she included her Holo Top Coat and her Smooth It Out Top Coat for free!

Before showing you my creations, I have to say the customer service was to die for! About an hour after I confirmed my purchase, I got an email saying it was already completed and ready to ship. When my package came, unfortunately one of my glitter polishes had broken. I emailed Sara immediately and she sent a replacement 2 days later!

So let’s get to my beauties! As I said, one of my glitter polishes broke in the package, so please excuse some of the bottle shots – they still have either a little residual glitter or some of the label came off from my cleaning.

First up, Circus Freak. I used the dark lavender crelly with silver and purple microglitter and white, yellow, and pink dots. It’s glitter-packed and only needed 2 coats! I tried this one with my Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food top coat, then KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

The only thing was the yellow dot glitter – I was thinking it’d be brighter (looks like lemony sunshine on her site), but I’m sure the purple base dulls it out a bit making it look more gold than lemon. But I still love it! Here’s another pic to show it in more direct lighting, which really brings out the microglitter and some of the blue undertones. Also, it’s supposed to say “Circus Freak” under the Nayll logo, but that came off when I cleaned the bottle with acetone.
