Lacquer by Lissa Spring Collection Review

I was lucky enough to be sent 3 brand new creations from a local nail polish creator, Melissa of Lacquer by Lissa. She’s an amazingly creative woman who is located right here in Pittsburgh. By day, she’s a chocolatier (ummm, can you say amazing job?!), and by night she’s a superhero! JK, she also uses her creativity to make beautiful nail polish.

She just released her Spring 2014 Collection, which is an array of gorgeousness. She also is now selling vinyl nail decals, which are supercute. Some adorable bunny decals were included in my package, which made my day happy.

Here’s the packaging:

How appropriate for spring, right? It was like an early Easter basket with nail polish instead of candy! So much better for you 🙂

And now for the polishes:

The Tin Man got a heart for Valentine’s Day!

Happy belated Valentine’s Day everyone! I’m not the biggest fan of this “holiday” because of all the commercialism, but I do enjoy any reason to celebrate love! Plus my birthday is Monday, so I’d much rather celebrate my birthday than VDay. The husband and I used it as another good excuse for a fun date night – had some yummy seafood and then went to go see Frozen (super cute movie if you haven’t seen it!).

And of course I had to have something VDay-related on my nails. I’ve been seeing a lot of cutout gradient designs, so I figured I’d try it with hearts!

You see why I titled my post like that now? The silver reminds me of tinfoil… tinfoil, tin, tin man, hearts for the Tin Man! Free association people!

Purple Heart Dotticure, Cork People, and First Stamping Decal

I’ve had the idea for this manicure for awhile – dotted outlines around a heart. I originally was planning on using purple and teal, but I came across an old beloved scarf that inspired the color combo.

Image

Purple and an electric reddish pink – so pretty! The scarf photographs more pink, but it does have more of a reddish tinge in real life. So that’s what I did! I used my dotting tool to make the center heart and a smaller tip for the rest of the dots. I actually think my right hand (pictured above) came out better than my left.

Here’s my left hand:

Image

Maybe because I was more deliberate while dotting my right hand, who knows? Anyways, I think the center hearts came out better on the right. I do, however, love my left middle finger. And that’s not just because it gets a lot of use in everyday gesturing lol!

Here’s me giving the middle finger up close:

My dotting skills still need a bit of work, but I still think this came out lovely.

Above is the left hand, and below is my right:

The right wins, yes?

Colors used:

  • Base color: Formula X for Sephora Heart-Stopping
  • Center heart and outlines: China Glaze Pool Party – a neon reddish pink, one of my favorites!
  • Color Club Eternal Beauty – the always gorgeous purple holo

Sparkly Nubbins

I can’t keep my nails too long for work – they’ll rip through gloves and hurt the tiny humans I treat. And we can’t have that! So I chopped them off recently, and now my nails are sad little nubbins. What better way to make sad nubbins happy than to sparkle them up?

Image

I painted all but my ring finger with A England’s Saint George. It’s such a pretty scattered holographic emerald green. Love it! My ring finger is Formula X for Sephora’s Hyped. I love this polish too! It’s this shimmery electric purple that has blue micro-flakies. My pics don’t do it justice – it’s gorgeous! I also threw some dots of Saint George on that ring finger. I was rushing this part a bit because it was late at night and I was exhausted. So my dots could have been better, but I like the overall look a lot!

A few more pics for you:

And now in regular lighting (I did adjust the coloring a bit to make the polish look as it does in real life, so the rest of the pic looks kind of odd):

Orange Spotted Delft nails

I heart MoYou London. They’re probably my favorite image plates so far. I own some Konad, Messy Mansion, Bundle Monster, Gals, and Winstonia. MoYou London has such a wide variety of available images and they’re all very high quality. I got a few in the mail and love playing with them!

I layered Formula X White Matter (white, duh), then 1 coat of Formula X Firecracker (matte orange glitter topcoat). Then I used MoYou London Pro 06 image plate and stamped the flowery image using Zoya Sailor, a dark navy blue. I think it looks vaguely like Delft pottery, don’t you? Such a pretty intricate pattern that stamped so easily and I like that the orange added a super subtle touch of color.

On a side note, I just watched the 2nd episode of Sherlock’s 3rd season. Loved it – touching best man speech, seeing Sherlock & John drunk, and Sherlock teaching impressionable young minds about murder.

Neon glitter gradient manicure

I removed that last manicure pretty quickly and decided I needed to do something that’s been on my to-do list for awhile. Nothing too labor-intensive, but still exciting for me! I bought a few of Sephora’s Formula X Xplosives topcoats. They’re all beautiful matte hexagonal/ circular glitter with an array of available colors. I bought the neon green, light blue, and orange. I love the idea of the black, white, and the black and white ones too, but those have bar glitter in them. I have an irrational disgust when it comes to bar glitter.

Enough chatty, here are some pics of this beautiful manicure. I think it more than makes up for my “meh mani” from a few days ago.

Colorful French manicure

Image

Meh… that’s pretty much my thought on this manicure. I don’t hate it, but I certainly don’t love it. I like each color separately, I like the combo of them together, and it’s not messy or anything. But there’s something about it that I’m not thrilled about. I’m not a huge fan of French manicures for myself – I think they’re pretty and classy but never enjoy the look on my own nails.
