Holo Humpday: ILNP Atomic Sherbet

Happy October everyone! I feel like I say this every month, but the year is going by so quickly! For my first holo humpday in October, I have an appropriate color for you – a light pumpkin orange! I Love Nail Polish’s Atomic Sherbet didn’t initially strike me as fully Fall-esque until I had it on my nails… then I saw the true pumpkin (perhaps the Great Pumpkin even?) brightness!

Without further ado, Atomic Sherbet!

ILNP Atomic Sherbet

This was the polish I had been wanting the most from ILNP’s Fall 2014 collection, and it doesn’t disappoint! It’s a orange/ tangerine/ copper holographic beauty.

Strong holo as usual, ILNP – strong work 🙂

There’s almost a metallic quality to it in the shade, but the sunlight just makes everything glow! Check it out:

So incredibly beautiful!

And how can I let this post go without a close-up?

Excuse the ragged cuticles… focus on that stunning polish!

Phew! I love this polish so much!

Since I can’t leave a good manicure alone, I decided what this ridiculously sparkly polish needed was MORE sparkle!

Holo + more sparkle

I added this gorgeous glitter topper I made from the Nayll website (see this post featuring all the fun polishes I designed!) What do you think? Do you like orange polish? Is the glitter a bit too much?

Nude Gold Polish Comparison Plus Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

I have an amazing polish to show you today! But before that, I want to show you a comparison of a few nude gold nail polishes. My post this past Wednesday featured I Love Nail Polish Iconic, and I mentioned that it was really similar to a few other polishes of mine. So I would like to show you a quick comparison!

Bottle shot!

Bottle shot!

See? They look super similar in the bottle! From left to right, there’s ILNP Iconic, Color Club Cherubic, and Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition.

And on my nails:

Comparison shot

Comparison shot

As you can tell, on the nails they are similar but not dupes! On my index finger and pinky – Color Club Cherubic, middle finger – ILNP Iconic, and ring finger – Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition.

Color wise, Iconic is more yellow gold while the other 2 are more nude gold. And Blonde Ambition is a bit darker than Cherubic, with Cherubic having some silver undertones. From a formula perspective, Iconic was the thinnest requiring 3-4 coats for opacity. The other two were comparable in formula, with just 2 coats to reach opacity.

Anyways, no dupes here! However, they are similar so if you aren’t a crazy polishaholic like me, you probably don’t need them all 🙂 I think my favorite is Blonde Ambition since it looks best with my skin tone, but they’re all beautiful!

OK… and finally, I want to show you my new Cadillacquer polish! It’s my first polish of this brand, and I love it so much! It’s goooorgeous!

Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

Cadillacquer Seek the Fire

So so pretty! That blue is so great on its own, and then there are those stunning little red microglitters throughout. Yummy! I’m so happy I was able to pick this one up 🙂

What do you think? Do you own any of those gold holos? Any others that you can think of as possible dupes? And jeez, how amazing is Seek the Fire? Do you have any Cadillacquers?

Holo Humpday: ILNP Iconic

For today’s Holo Humpday, I present to you *dun dun dun duuuuun* (ps – that was a drum roll)… I Love Nail Polish’s Iconic! Barbra put out such a gorgeous Fall collection, including this ridiculous holographic nail polish.

i love nail polish ilnp iconic gold holographic nail polish holo humpday

Whomp… that’s my jaw dropping at this beauty!

Iconic is a stunning nude gold holographic nail polish with hints of silver. I thought I had absolutely nothing in my collection that could compare, so obviously I needed this pretty to be mine right?

i love nail polish ilnp iconic gold holographic nail polish holo humpday

Such a strong holo!

As I mentioned in my post Monday that included ILNP Champagne Blush, the formula seemed a bit thinner than other ILNP holos I have. The first coat was very sheer, but it built up nicely. My pics show 3 coats with no top coat.

Here’s a close-up:

i love nail polish ilnp iconic gold holographic nail polish holo humpday

Boom baby! Emperor’s New Groove anyone?

Now, I also own Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition and Color Club Cherubic which are actually quite similar. I really need to do a comparison picture.

Oh and guess what I just realized?! Today is officially my 1 year anniversary of this little blog! So yay – it’s my blogiversary 🙂 I think things have vastly improved, don’t you?

What do you think? Can you ever own too many nude or gold holos? Would you like to see a comparison shot of the CbL, Color Club, and ILNP?

Negative Space Chevron Manicure: September NCC #4

Did y’all check out manicures from NYFW? I honestly didn’t pay too much attention to them, but one sort of caught my eye. OPI did a simple negative space mani for Dion Lee. So I figured I’d like to try something similar for my last NCC geometric look!

Here’s OPI’s look:

And here’s mine:

My take on the Dion Lee mani

I was going to just do the vertical chevrons, but the whites of my nails are tinged a bit yellow at the moment and I didn’t like how that looked! So I did a berry french manicure with the vertical chevron.

negative space manicure i love nail polish ilnp champagne blush barry m berry cosmo nail vinyls chevron

A bit different lighting to show off the holo

I used Barry M Berry Cosmo for the french tips, ILNP Champagne Blush for the vertical chevrons, and some trusty chevron nail vinyls from KBShimmer!

The Barry M line is just continuing to make me fall deeper in love! Every polish I try from them is creamy perfection and Berry Cosmo is no exception.

I was super excited to break out this ILNP from the new Fall collection – it’s definitely a unique shade for a holographic polish. The formula for the new holos in that line seems to be slightly thinner than I’m used to with ILNP’s holo polish. I have to go back and check the others I have, but yeah… it was pretty sheer on the first coat, and then it built up easily with a thicker second coat.

What do you think? Are you a fan of negative space manicures? That trend certainly doesn’t seem to fading at all!

Check out the other NCC geometric manis:

Green and Orange Abstract Mani: September NCC #3

So far this is my least favorite manicure for September’s NCC theme of geometric nails. Better to start you off with low expectations, right? 🙂 I don’t think the mani came out poorly or anything… I just didn’t quite like it. Anyways, let me show you to see what you think:

My meh mani

See? Not awful, but I guess it’s just not quite my style. I basically grabbed some single chevron vinyls and played around with different patterns, then threw some dots up on there.

Look at that crazy amazing mango orange polish!

I think it would, however, be great for a St. Patricks day mani! Especially if you don’t want to paint 4-leaf clovers, leprechauns, or rainbows… this is kind of a abstract homage to the holiday. 🙂 I wasn’t going for that when I did this mani, but the colors definitely scream St Paddys!

geometric manicure nail vinyls abstract green orange dots i love nail polish reminisce picture polish tail feather orly tropical pop

Excuse the lobster hands – I was trying to get that light green to look color-accurate

The orange and light green did freak my camera out, so my skin looks a little lobster-esque!

Here’s what I used:

  • Base color: My go-to white, Rica’s Whiteout
  • Light Green: piCture pOlish Tail Feather… such a gorgeous almost-neon mint with subtle scattered holo
  • Darker Green: ILNP Reminisce (H)… the holo version of Reminisce, an ultrachrome from my favorite indie brand that shifts from different shades of green to blue and gold. When it was in a small accent on my nails, it didn’t show the shift very well, but it was still there!
  • Orange: Orly Tropical Pop… this is sooo pretty! It’s like a mango/ tangerine yellow-orange neon. It is sheer, so as a full mani you’d have to have a white undie!

So what do you think? Are you as “meh” about it as me? Or is it super appropriate for the March holiday?

Check out the other geometric manis:

Holo Humpday: ILNP Kings & Queens

Guys, 3 holo humpdays in a row – I’m on a roll here! So here comes another Wednesday, and another gorgeous holo polish for you to drool over. 🙂 If you missed the first two, please go check them out because those polishes are to die for. They can be found here and here.

Today’s featured holo is… can you guess which brand? I Love Nail Polish (duh!)! Today I’m wearing Kings & Queens. I can’t get enough ILNP polish! Sidenote – Barbra just opened up the pre-order for the Fall collection this past Friday, and I definitely made my wallet a little thinner that day. I purchased Iconic, Black Orchid, Champagne Blush, and Atomic Sherbet. All of those are, of course, HOLOS! So I’m going to have products for many more Holo Humpdays to come. 🙂

i love nail polish kings and queens holographic nail polish swatch holo humpday

Ugh, this so disgustingly beautiful. Kings & Queens has one of the stronger linear holographic effects I’ve seen for ILNP – it really looks like a flame in pictures! Aaaand this is inside! Just imagine what it looks like outside (unfortunately you are forced to imagine because the sun has refused to make an appearance for my pics… eff you, clouds!).

Here’s a slightly closer look:

i love nail polish kings and queens holographic nail polish swatch holo humpday

Kings & Queens is like a raspberry wine color. It smacks you across the face with the holo too!

And here is the macro (are you ready for this?):

BAM! Look at that linear holo! Ridiculous!

So that’s my yummy holo for today. Did you get any beauties in the ILNP pre-order? Also, what do you think about my Holo Humpday? Should I keep going?

Holo Humpday: ILNP Rehab

Guess what day it is? Holo humpday! (PS – does anyone else dislike that commercial as much as I do? That camel started annoying the crap out of me super quick!) Anyways, any day is a good day for some holo.

Today, I have another stunning polish from I Love Nail Polish – Rehab. It was part of the Summer 2014 collection, and I am soo happy I got my greedy little sparkle-covered hands on it!

i love nail polish rehab holographic nail polish swatch holo humpday

I am a true “ho” for holo! I would cover my body in this stuff if it were socially acceptable. And as a huge fan of teal/ turquoise, this is probably one of my favorite polishes! Just look at that color and that sparkle!

Here’s a macro:

i love nail polish rehab holographic nail polish swatch holo humpday

Stun-ning! The linear holo is pretty strong on this one too. It’s even prettier in the sunshine, but unfortunately Pittsburgh has been rainy and cloudy recently.

And ILNP is coming out with the pre-order for the Fall 2014 collection this Friday, August 15! There are more stunners to bring home and cuddle in my bed at night… I mean, to add to my collection. I don’t cuddle my polishes in bed, I swear. 😉

*OK, quick change in subject. As I’m writing this, the news of Robin Williams’ passing just broke. How heartbreaking that a man who brought so many smiles and laughs to so many was truly suffering in silence. Depression and addiction are awful diseases, and my heart goes out to anyone who suffers through them. I definitely was a true fan of Williams, from the lighthearted Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, and The Birdcage to the amazing and poignant Dead Poets Society and Good Morning, Vietnam. What a great artist – he will truly be missed.*

Holo Humpday

Despite being a hardcore holo-lover, I realized I haven’t posted any holo manis recently! We have to remedy this situation immediately! I’m going to try to feature one of my many holo polishes each Wednesday (let’s see how long this will actually last lol).

First holo up is one I actually hadn’t worn yet! Awhile back, I bought a bunch of holos (and many others) from I Love Nail Polish, one of my absolute favorite indie brands. ILNP was actually my first intro into the indie polish world, and you always remember your first right? 😉 This polish had not yet been given any nail love, so it’s time to fix that!

holographic I love nail polish cutie pop nail swatch

ILNP Cutie Pop is a great almost bubblegum pink with golden undertones and a nice scattered holo. I loooove this polish! I’m so sad I haven’t worn this before!

Here’s a close-up:

Sorry about the cleanup on that close-up pic. Sometimes you don’t realize you didn’t do a pristine cleanup until you see such a close shot!

Have you tried ILNP polishes yet? If not, you should! So many great choices there! Which are your favorites?

Swatches: ILNP Charmingly Purple, piCture pOlish Peacock, and Nails Inc Porchester Square

Just a quick post showing off a few swatches I’ve done over the past few months.

First up is this gorgeous purple holo: Charmingly Purple from I Love Nail Polish. It was a part of ILNP’s Spring Collection 2014 and I absolutely love it! Charmingly Purple has a subtle but perfect linear holo and is a fantastic choice for a spring/ summer manicure.

Next up is piCture pOlish’s Peacock. I love this bottle – it sort of quotes Katy Perry’s song and is deviously amusing (“Do you wanna see my… peacock”). I layered it over a simple black (I used Orly’s Liquid Vinyl) and that made the glitter really pop.

This polish has a dark greenish jelly base with teal and purple microglitter and really shows depth. I love it! Here’s another picture to show off it’s perfection:

And last but not least is a polish I’ve had forever but never actually worn. I was going to wear it as a base for some nail art but ended up liking it enough to keep it on by itself. Nails Inc Porchester Square is a really nice neutral that leans toward the mushroom or greyish brown shade.

Professional and pretty, right?

I’ll have some more posts coming up soon with the June Nail Challenge Collaborative!

ILNP Birefringence

It’s been awhile since I’ve done any nail art. With Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, family staying with us, working, blah, blah, blah – I’ve had naked nails for almost a week. *Gasp* Such a travesty! I bought a few polishes from I Love Nail Polish, and I’ve been itching to put this glorious selection on my nails. Let’s just say it did not disappoint! Pictures do not do Birefringence justice. It’s an amazing ultrachrome with so many shifting colors. I tried to capture them all, but alas it ’twas not to be.

Here’s a sample of colors I found that are as close as possible to the ones represented in this stunning polish:

Birefringence is, in most lighting, a turquoise-blue-purple shifting polish. But with other lighting or certain contortionist hand positions, it shifts to fuschia/magenta-gold. Incredible!

Excuse the fact that I took the above pictures in my car (no worries, I was stopped and sitting in heavy traffic). But g’damn it’s gorgeous right? I can’t stop snapping pics!
