Giraffe manicure: February’s NCC #1

Hello sweeties! And happy February to you! I love February because it’s my birthday month, and I still get as excited as a little girl for my birthday. It’s definitely a holiday for me 🙂 February also marks the start of another theme for the Nail Challenge Collaborative; this month, we’re doing animal manicures! For my first look, I decided to try out a new nail art technique – the blobbicure (doesn’t that sound like a horror movie villain or a disease?!).

There are a ton of tutorials floating about on how to do blobbicures, and I came across one from NailzSchmailz on Instagram using white and orange polish. She said it reminded her of giraffe skin, so I figured this would be a great opportunity to try a new technique for this animal look!

Giraffe blobbicure

Giraffe blobbicure

Not bad for my first attempt! I really like how this came out. Each nail is different, but it’s still cohesive. I got the hang of the technique by the time I got to my middle finger, which happens to be my favorite one! Plus, I think this really looks like sparkly giraffe skin. I’d love to see a giraffe like this!

How I did it/ products I used:

  • Base color: OPI My Vampire is Buff… such a great creme vanilla – perfect for nail art! I used 2 coats to get it opaque and then let it dry.
  • Then I painted a 3rd fairly thick coat of that OPI on.
  • While that was still wet, I dabbed on varying sized dots of Different Dimension Bold as Brass. This polish is amazing! It’s a beautiful bronze/ brass holo, and it gave this mani a little extra something. The holo is crazy strong!
  • I used the brush from the bottle to dab on the dots – I’ve seen tutorials where people use a dotting tool and I feel like you get more polish spread with the brush.
  • I let those dots spread, making the blobbicure happen!

What do you think? Have you tried blobbicures yet? Also, did you watch the SuperBowl last night? I sort of watched – it was more of fast forward and watch the commercials! 😉 I thought the commercials leaned more toward the morose/ depressions side… I wish they had more funny ones. I did like the halftime show though – Missy Elliot was awesome!

Neutral and green skittlette manicure

Happy December everyone! I love this time of year – not for the snowy weather, but I just adore picking out presents for people. And it definitely doesn’t suck to receive presents either 😉 ! Today I have a mani with a little bit o’ everything for you. There’s holo, metallic, neutrals, a gradient, dotting, and stamping!

My sampler manicure

I really love this one! It’s a bit of a sampler of everything, but I think it goes well together. Here’s another pic:

And that holo!

I LOVE love love that green holo! It’s much more of an evergreen in real life, but my camera really wanted to make it look turquoise. Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer just restocked this polish (it’s called Mickey Smith, Defending the Earth – part of the Gents of Doctor Who collection) yesterday, and this will be the last restock for awhile!! So if you like it, go pick it up ASAP! Oh, and there’s a 25% off Cyber Monday sale today (check out the BEGL Facebook page for more details) – all the more reason to go now!

Products used:

  • Index finger and thumb: BEGL Mickey Smith, Defending the Earth
  • Middle and ring fingers:
    • Base Color: OPI My Vampire is Buff… a perfect cream nude
    • Gradient: OPI My Vampire is Buff, Essie Mink Muffs (a medium brown creme), and Essie Partner in Crime (a perfect almost black dark chocolate creme)
    • Stamping plate: MoYou London Pro XL 14
    • Stamping polish: Essie Good as Gold
  • Pinky
    • Base Color: Essie Partner In Crime
    • Dot: BEGL Mickey Smith, Defending the Earth

So what do you think? Do you like to mix and match manis as much as I do? Will you be heading over to BEGL to pick up that awesome green holo or any of the other Doctor Who polishes?

Blue Mosaic Color Blocking: September NCC #2

For my second geometric manicure for the September NCC, I played with striping tape and ended up with what looks like an abstract R2D2. I find striping tape so annoying to work with sometimes – this manicure was certainly one of those times!

My abstract R2D2 mani

I really do love the end product though. This took foreeeever (does anyone else get flashbacks to The Sandlot here? Fooor-ev-eeer… loved that movie as a kid!). All that hassle with striping tape resulted in a really pretty manicure! I used a bunch of new polishes I recently picked up, including my very first Chaos & Crocodiles polish!

Sparkly striping tape mani

Ugh, that C&C holo is digustingly beautiful! C&C put out a Secret Agent collection, filled with a rainbow of gorgeous holos. I picked up 3 – the blue you see in this manicure (Sleeper Cell), a lavender called Decoy, and a red called Security Breach. They are all just soooo stunning. Oh! And I saw that people who bought the whole collection got a really amazing package with Secret Agent-themed items. I kind of wish I bought the whole collection now… Hey, there are always restocks right?!

Look at that Blonde Ambition in my hands! So pretty!

Anyways, I just love this manicure!

Colors used:

  • Base: OPI My Vampire Is Buff… I can’t believe I didn’t own this before now! I love this super-smooth creamy nude!
  • Barry M Damson… a stuuuunning cornflower vibrant blue! Love this so much!
  • Chaos & Crocodiles Sleeper Cell… very strong blue holo with some hues of teal. Love love love!
  • Colors by Llarowe Blonde Ambition… a gorgeous golden nude with a very strong linear holo. Someone posted in a polish-themed facebook group that this is almost identical to Color Club Cherubic, so you need to own one of them! I haven’t swatched them next to one another yet, so I can’t say for sure if they’re dupes (& which one you need). BUT the color and holo is to die for, so you have to have one!

So yeah, I love it! Do you see what I mean about an abstract R2D2 though? Do you have Chaos & Crocodiles polish – if so, what others are must-buys? Also, any suggestions on making striping tape less annoying?
