Another Monday, another manicure for the Nail Challenge Collaborative! Continuing with this month’s book theme, I recreated the cover of another favorite book of mine – Catch 22 by Joseph Heller.
I am admittedly not the best when it comes to intricate freehand nail art, so the little guy looks a bit silly. But I still like how this came out!
If you haven’t read Catch-22, it’s another one I’d highly recommend! It’s full of contradictions – it’s full of levity but surprisingly deep, and it’s dark but hilarious. My whole family loves this book too. My mom even once had a cat she named after the main character, Yossarian.
Here’s the book cover I tried to recreate:
Polishes I used:
- Base color: OPI Alpine Snow
- Blue: KBShimmer’s Low & Be Bold… such an amazing vivid blue polish! It does have a slight jelly formula, so it needs an extra coat when worn on its own. But it’s stunning!
- Freehanded the little man with more OPI Alpine Snow & then filled him in with Zoya’s Sooki… Sooki is a great primary red with a perfect formula!
- Topped it all off with some good Glisten & Glow HK Girl
So what do you think? Are you enjoying the book-themed manis this month? What’s your favorite book?

I think your little guy is adorable! Great job recreating the cover, especially the torn edges part. That would have given me the most trouble.
Thank you! The edges were actually the easiest for me lol! I just used the polish brush itself and kind of scalloped my way around.
Cute! I am loving that bright KB Shimmer. I need to pick up a lot of her creams when I get back to work and have $ again. 🙂
Thanks! LABB is definitely one of my favorite KBShimmer “plain” colors. I don’t own many of her cremes, but I want more too 🙂
I loved Catch 22 – I think maybe I need to reread it now!
It’s such a great book! Doing this challenge makes me want to reread all my favorites too 🙂
Very cool, now I want to read this book! 😀
It’s another great one! You definitely should read it at some point 🙂
Looks just like the book cover! How cool.
Thanks so much! I was happy I had the coordinating colors 🙂
It’s funny, love it!
Xoxo
Thank you 🙂
Wow, you’ve captured the book cover perfectly! The little guy is awesome 😀
Yay – thank you! I like the little guy… he has very lanky arms though lol.
Such a fun design!
Thanks! Glad you like 🙂
This is just a perfect representation of that cover! Great job!
Thank you so much! I’m pretty happy with how it came out, but I definitely want to work more on my freehand 🙂
I’ve actually never read this book! I do love your interpretation though!
Thanks! It’s a great one – you should definitely try it at some point!
Your silly guy does the job! I haven’t read this… yet. Nail art and books go so well together!
Thanks – I’m glad you like my little guy 🙂 I agree – books definitely provide some good nail inspiration! And PS you should check the book out… it’s a classic and it’s amazing!!
These are AWESOME. I love how the guy turned out!
Woo hoo! Thank you so much 🙂
I remember liking Catch-22 as well! Great job!
Thank you! It’s definitely a great book – glad you like it as well! 🙂
That blue just kills me. It’s gorgeous and you made me realize I need to bring it out more!
Yes – it’s SUCH a great blue!! I love a good vivid cobalt blue 🙂
This looks awesome! You did a great job! I’ve read this book back in high school, I didn’t really understand it then and completely wrote it off but maybe I should give it another try.
Thanks so much! You should definitely give it another shot – it’s a really great book 🙂
I haven’t read it but I need to! Great recreation of the cover!
Thank you! Yes, put it on your reading list 🙂
Great mani! looked like the little man was hard to paint, but you did a good job. I haven’t read any good book (or any book for that matter) in a long time, I should start reading again.
Thanks so much! Yeah, the little guy was hard to paint… But it’s good practice to continue freehand projects 🙂
I just recently started reading novels again, and I just love it!
